We all have superpowers. They are the unique talents and strengths we can confidently rely on to find opportunity in adversity and make a huge impact for good.
In these extraordinary times I’ve noticed many leaders and organizations capitalizing on their strengths – demonstrating their own superpowers – from intellectual wisdom, to responsiveness and adaptability, to deep care and empathy, to responsibility and innovation. Leaders are engaging their teams to solve the specific problems COVID-19 has presented and make our lives better.
Be sure you and your team are using your superpower strengths.
My number one tip to all leaders is: Identify and acknowledge your own and your team’s superpower strengths. Look for what your team is doing right. Focus on what is going well.
Then, apply your combined and individual strengths to creating an opportunity or solving a big problem for your business, our communities and the COVID-19 crisis.
Focusing on strengths is a recipe for success. Studies show that when people are engaged and using their strengths, real innovation happens, people learn quicker and organizations are up to 13% more productive and 29% more profitable.
Do this: Engage your team through their strengths
At your next online team meeting, ask everyone to come ready to share the superpower strengths they’re using to stay productive and potentially, keep a smile on their face.
Invite them to share a picture, bring an object or wear something that exemplifies that superpower.
One of the teams I work with used hats with great success. An angel, a race car driver, Wonder Woman and John Wayne showed up to the meeting exemplifying their strengths in empathy, action, command and communication.
People left the meeting motivated, tapped into their creativity and empowered to act and achieve.
