Anthropologists say we are descendants of the most cooperative humans living across time. In the past, people who didn’t work together didn’t just have a bad day at the office — they could not survive a winter or be eaten by a lion. No wonder today’s office workers say “knowing someone at work cares about me as a person” is a top predictor of happiness on the job. It’s literally in our nature to need connection and care from others. Leaders must look for ways to create genuine connection with team members (whether on Zoom or in person). Try this: Recognize when someone used a strength to knock it out of the park on a presentation. Ask about their family’s recent trip to Mexico, their daughter’s graduation or their aging parents. And actively listen to their response. You can find more ways to skyrocket connection (and engagement) here: https://lnkd.in/dh7gJCYw
